I’ve had the privilege to earn 18 years of knowledge and experience in what I summarize as building effective relationships with stakeholders. (See My Story for the importance of relationships.) A stakeholder has the ability to positively or negatively influence one’s business plan, legislation, funding, media coverage, construction project, public perception, election...just about anything.
I have gained invaluable knowledge from working in the unique communities of Alaska, Colorado, Louisiana, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Texas.
It has been challenging work but incredibly fun at the same time.
In 2017 I bravely pursued a long-contemplated idea and founded my own communications consulting organization – Ascend Communications Group. I chose Ascend because I want to empower my clients to rise above the lazy ways we communicate with one another.
Prior to launching my own company, I worked in Public and Government Affairs for ExxonMobil for eight years. From 2012 to 2017, I managed effective media, community and government relations as well as emergency response for the Rockies. From 2009 - 2011, I served as a National Program Officer in Corporate Citizenship and Community Investment at global headquarters in Dallas managing charitable donation programs.
Before moving to the private sector, I spent six years working for nonprofit advocacy organizations. I directed media relations and strategic communications for the fifth largest Planned Parenthood affiliate and the sixth largest United Way organization in the nation.
I served on the communications team for U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman’s (CT) Presidential campaign and two of U.S. Representative Chet Edwards (TX) re-election campaigns. Additionally, I worked in U.S. Representative Nick Lampson's (TX) Washington, DC office.
I am a strong supporter of organizations that empower all women. I proudly volunteer with the Women's Foundation of Colorado, Florence Crittenton Services, Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute and Planned Parenthood. In 2016, I was honored as one of the Top 40 Women in Energy by the Denver Business Journal.
I received my bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication and Journalism from
Texas A&M University. My friends would tell you I spend too much time reminding them (and the general public) about the importance of sunscreen. I am originally from Houston but I happily reside in Washington Park West with my feisty, 14-year-old Yorkie, Jackson.
